CTW: water breaks forth

Friends, be strong and do not fear, for we are in the presence of God.
Waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.
The burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water.
God brings forth abundance where before there was scarcity.
There is nothing that is impossible with God.
We are gathered to share God’s blessings with one another.
Come, let us worship God.

CTW: called by name

We have been claimed by the God who calls us children.
We, the redeemed, have been called by name.
As with the Israelites, God promises to pass with us through the water.
We will not fear, for God is with us!
The rivers shall not overwhelm us for God is our guide and our protector.
Through God’s saving grace, the waters that tested us
are now the waters that wash us and nourish us.
Great is the Fount of Every Blessing,
ever flowing, ever redeeming, ever claiming us as God’s children.
Come, let us worship the God who washes us in grace.

confession: we cling

Holy and gracious God,
you have called us through your saving waters into new life,
yet we confess we cling to the old ways of death.
We doubt your promises and refuse your guidance;
we choose the power and privilege of empire over the justice and peace of your kingdom;
and we lose hope in your deliverance and give into despair.
Lord, in your mercy, wash away our sin and make us clean.
Give us the courage to follow where your Spirit leads,
that all may witness the saving power of your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

CTW: We Belong To God

L: People of God, hear what God says to you:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you.”
P: The LORD has created us; the LORD has formed us.
God has called us by name; we belong to God.
L: When you pass through the waters, God will be with you.
P: When we cross the rivers of life, the will not overwhelm.
L: For the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, the LORD is your Savior.

illumination: planted, nourished, sustained

Inspiring God,
plant us deep within your rich soil…
fill us with your nourishing, refreshing, life-giving water…
and shine your life-sustaining light of love upon us…
so that we may grow and go and be and do.
Amen

gathering liturgy–into the waters

GATHERING LITURGY for two voices

ONE: In the beginning, at creation, there was water,
TWO: bringing life.
ONE: In the beginning, Spirit hovered over the water,
TWO: transforming it into many oceans.
ONE: The water flowed from the oceans and became rivers…
TWO: Humankind, fish and fowl flourished.
ONE: Communities sprang up around rivers and streams…
TWO: And God’s spirit flowed throughout the land.
ONE: Once again, God is calling us to the River…
TWO: We are naturally drawn to the River of Life.
ONE: God is calling us to enter Into the Waters
TWO: We hesitate at first, but we know the waters will bring us renewal.
ONE: Go –Into the Waters.
