CTW: from mountaintop and valley

One: We come from mountaintop and valley
All: From highways and quiet streets.
One: We come with joys and concerns
All: with expectations and excuses.
One: We come seeking Christ
All: to know and follow his way.

CTW: remembering who we are

One: Come from east and west, north and south!
All: From everywhere God has placed us,
with everything God has given us,
as the people God made us—we come.

One: Come, receive again the gift of grace!
All: Not for owning, not for boasting, but for celebrating—we come.
One: Come, discover again the way that leads to life!
All: Remembering who we are, seeking who we are yet to be—we come.

(Suggested opening hymn: We Rejoice To Be God’s Chosen)

Confession: we want to see you, but

We want to see you, Jesus…but sometimes we are too afraid to ask for help.
We want to see you…but we aren’t sure if those people should be allowed to come too.
We want to see you…but we don’t love the way you talk about sacrifice and death, or about outcasts and sinners.
We want to see you…but we also want to know how it’ll go first.
Forgive us.
Fill us
with courage to step forward and seek,
with openness to those around us,
with vision to see your big picture,
with trust to follow you.
In Christ’s name, and for his sake. Amen.

invitation: everyone who asks receives

Jesus promises that everyone who asks will receive.
At this table, we receive the presence of Christ in the gift of bread and cup.
Jesus promises that everyone who seeks will find.
If you seek the presence of Christ, we pray that you will find him at this table.
Jesus promises that for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
On behalf of the church universal, in the name of Jesus Christ, you are welcome to this table!

Illumination: listening

Jesus, Master,
we are listening for your Word.
Give us your Holy Spirit,
so we might hear your Good News
in the words of scripture and preaching.
Teach us to seek you always
and to respond to your call.
We pray for the sake of your holy name.
Amen.
