Confession: We Withhold

Lord of life,
you breathed your Spirit into the gathered disciples
and commissioned them to carry the good news of grace to all people.
We confess that we do not welcome your Spirit.
We withhold from others
the forgiveness you have freely given us.
We choose familiarity and security
instead of possibility and challenge.

Have mercy on us.
Show us the truth of your resurrection,
and send us again rejoicing,
to bear witness to your risen life.

Confession: fear and courage

Call to Reconciliation  

We come to this moment with our own personal baggage, our histories, our experiences.  God invites us to come as we are, and unburden ourselves of our past and know that we are forgiven.

 Let us pray.

Prayer of Confession

We want to be people of trust, O God,

But we are fragile people who have known pain and loss, and therefore, fear.

We fear for ourselves and those we love.

We fear for our country and our neighbors.

We fear for our planet and our climate,

We fear for our politics and our divisions.

We fear for our economy,

We fear change — and everything is changing.

In this moment, we unburden our fears to You.

Give us the courage to trust, we pray.  Amen.

Silent Confession

Now, let us take a moment in silent prayer, so that we can confess our sins against God and our neighbor.

(wait for 3 breaths)

Assurance of Forgiveness

Hear the Good News:  God, our Maker, Jesus our Teacher, the Spirit our Advocate, the Triune God is for us, not against us.

We are forgiven!  Thanks be to God!

Confession: Befuddled and Disappointed

God of our longing,
you raised Jesus Christ from the dead.
We confess that the emptiness of the tomb
often leaves us befuddled and disappointed.
We know what we had hoped,
but we can’t see what has actually happened.
We know the good news, but our hearts struggle to believe it.

Take several moments for silent confession.

Open our eyes, our minds, our hearts.
Reveal yourself in the confusion of our lives,
so our lives might reveal Christ’s risen presence,
for we are his people. Amen.

Wherever you go, share Christ’s life with others,
by the power of the Holy Spirit.

May the steadfast love of the Lord,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
be yours, today and forever. Alleluia! Amen.
